Razer Imperator
Razer™, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-end precision gaming and lifestyle peripherals, have recently released the Razer Imperator™ mouse. Here with us today is the Imperator™, which we will look more into it in the next few pages.
The new mouse is designed with gaming-grade right-handed ergonomics in mind, with specially designed contours and grooves specifically crafted to enhance aggressive mouse movements by the gamers. How will it work in actual gameplay? Let’s find out.
Product Features:
• Ergonomic right-handed design
• Adjustable side buttons
• 5600dpi Razer Precision™ 3.5G laser sensor
• Razer Synapse™ on-board memory
• Up to 200 inches per second*/ 50g acceleration
• Seven independently programmable Hyperesponse™ buttons
• 1000Hz Ultrapolling™ / 1ms response rate
• On-the-fly sensitivity™ adjustment
• Zero-acoustic Ultraslick™ Teflon feet
• Approximate size: 123(L) x 71(W) x 42(H)
The top shell and the scroll wheel are coated with a layer of rubber for palm grip, while the sides are of glossy plastic, and specially contoured for ergonomics in mind. There are 7 independently programmable Hyperesponse™ buttons, inclusive of 2 side buttons and the middle button on the scroll wheel.
The 2 buttons beneath the scroll wheel are defined by default for on-the-fly sensitivity adjustments.
Razer had the cable itself sleeved to improve durability, such as instances where the cable rubs against the edge of the table. They also made the USB plug header gold plated for optimal electrical conductivity.
Inspecting the underneath of the mouse reveals the laser engine, 3 large Teflon feets to provide frictionless and quiet movement.
The mouse also has a profile switch so that the user can easily switch various mouse profiles on the fly.
One new feature for the Imperator is the adjustable side buttons, which can be done via the slider underneath the mouse.
On first gripping the mouse, the wide body and the arc design feels comfortable enough for big palms, though one flaw is that the mouse is designed on for the right-handed gamers. The rubber coating does make it grippy, but on personal experience, under prolong exposure in humid environment or sweat, the rubber coating might feel sticky which can be a problem to some, proper cleaning once a while may help prolong the coating.
Comparing the Imperator to the gaming mouse I am currently using, the Copperhead, the Imperator is relatively shorter compared to the Copperhead. Powering up the Imperator reveals glowing blue light from the scroll wheel and the Razer logo on the body.
Gaming experience
The Imperator has been tested under 2 games, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Quake III Arena. As a gamer who prefers control over speed, the default setting of 1800 DPI and 500 Hz Polling Rate really suited my style really well, I was able to control the movement of the mouse with ease, though the shorter body of the body need some time for me to get used to.
The weight is just right for me to perform lifting for reposition, but it’s a pity that the weight is not adjustable for different gamers’ requirement. The wide body and the contours really make the Imperator comfy in my hand, and I found myself playing long time without feeling any form of tiredness from my hand. The rubber coating is really does its job of enhancing grip.
Increasing the sensitivity of the mouse makes the movement much quicker, and yet it still maintains its accuracy. Buttons on the mouse are rather responsive, but lacks the tactile feedback which I am used to in the Copperhead, the clicks feels very soft. The adjustable side buttons really helps in getting the optimal position of the buttons for different hand sizes.
The Imperator can be summarised as follows:
Pros
• Wide body, arc design and contours enhances ergonomic comfort for prolong play
• Rubber coat enhances grip
• Adjustable side buttons to cater for different hand sizes
• The blue glow is appealing to those who like “blings” (Lights can be turned off as well if needed)
• Accurate and ease of control
• Control Panel well laid out and well illustrated
Cons
• Buttons lack tactile feedback
• Right-hand users only
• Lack of weight adjustment feature
