ClickBank
ClickBank is not an affiliate program. So you can get that out of your head. Instead, it is a large network of affiliate programs which all choose to use ClickBank as their payment processor and to give affiliates like you and me the chance to promote their products. Because people who write the ebooks and make the video series which get sold on ClickBank don’t want to spend the time or money promoting their product, they put it on an affiliate network like ClickBank and get the power of thousands of people selling and driving traffic to the merchant’s site.
They are prepared to offer a generous percentage of the money made when a sale goes through, and this can be as high as 75%, meaning a $79 product would earn you, the affiliate just shy of $60. That’s cool, eh!
So, on our first step to understanding ClickBank, you now know that ClickBank is just a big marketplace of products which people will pay you (if you make sales) to promote. So it’s no skin off their noses if you don’t manage to sell anything, but it’s worth it if you are a good affiliate. They get lots of sales.
Second in understanding ClickBank, are hoplinks. A hoplink is like a little ‘re-director’. Have you ever used one of those URL shortening services? If you use Twitter, you’ll know what I’m talking about. The short link re-directs to the longer one. This is the same way the hoplink works, you enter your ‘special ID’ into a form, and a unique link is generated. If you then use this link to send visitors to the merchant’s website, in a complex and rather boring manner the website can track who sent the visitor and pay them if a sale was made.
When you sign up to ClickBank, you’ll choose a unique name for yourself. This is not the same as a username! This, well, username will be visible to visitors who click through, and even though ClickBank has begun to mask these names with a long string of letters and numbers, it still pays to have one which is related to what you are selling.
Understanding ClickBank isn’t such a hard thing. It is a marketplace, and has things called ‘hoplinks’. Selling products is a whole different ball game however, and that would require a totally new article.
